WoW LeatherWorking Guide

Ultimate WoW Guide

Leatherworking is a profession that allows you to create armor and other utility items for yourself or other players.  It is best leveled with Skinning since most of the materials needed for Leatherworking are the materials skinned from mobs.  This WoW Leatherworking Guide will help you quickly level your leatherworking skill to 450 and it assumes you have skinning as your other profession.

To start leatherworking, you need to start by training at one of the listed trainers that matches your faction.

Leatherworking is a unique type of profession.   It is designed for you to level the profession parallel to leveling your character.   It is the one profession that can be easily leveled without much effort since you skin the mobs as you kill them.   For the purpose of this WoW Leatherworking Guide, we will show you how to level your Leatherworking as if you are a high level character and you are in need of quickly leveling to 450.   Hopefully you have enough gold to cover the expenses, or you will need to go throughout the zones skinning the mobs.   This method will allow you to sit outside the auction house and level without hopping from zone to zone.

These are the materials you will need from the auction house. It takes a lot of bag space for all of these, so the best thing to do is buy the materials as you level.

Wow Leatherworking Guide 1- 300 Materials

  • 20 Light Hide
  • 75 Salt (obtained from vendors at a cost of 50c each)
  • 110 Coarse Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 10c each)
  • 25 Medium Hides
  • 100 Fine Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 1s each)
  • 25 Gray Dye (obtained from vendors at a cost of 3s, 50c each)
  • 10 Heavy Hide
  • 410 Heavy Leather
  • 75 Black Dye (obtained from vendors at a cost of 10s each)
  • 160 Silken Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 5s each)
  • 20 Bolts of Silk Cloth (made by tailors)
  • 10 Iron Buckles (made by blacksmiths)
  • 565 Thick Leather
  • 400 Rugged Leather
  • 40 Rune Thread (obtained from vendors at a cost of 50s each)

Level 1- 75

Start off creating armor kits.   These are easy and only need one light leather material per level up.

After creating enough armor kits, move on to cured light hide until you reach level 65. Next, create the Embossed Leather Gloves to level you until 85.  Make sure to train when you hit level 75, or you will waste your materials.

Level 75-150

First, start off making Fine Leather Belt.   This will easily get you to level 100.   Then start making cured medium hide and fine leather belt that will get you to 125.   Then start creating Dark Leather Belt which will shoot you to level 150.

Level 150-225

Next, start making cured heavy hide and Heavy Armor Kit.   These two items will easily get you to 180.   Barbaric shoulders and Dusky Leather Bracers will get you to the next level with is 195.   Start making dusty belts and Nightscape Headband and these two will bring you to 225.

Level 225 – 300

Now, you will have a bunch of Nightscape items materials in your inventory.   Use these to get you very close to 300.   They will bring you to 265.   The next level up from the Nightscape items are the Wicked set.   This will bring you to 300 easily.

Level 300-375 – Burning Crusade material

Burning Crusade introduced a lot of materials needed for Leatherworkers to level up. You will need a lot of knothide leather to level up.  The knothide leather can be found in Hellfire Peninsula mobs or you can purchase them from the auction house.  Knothide leather and heavy knothide leather can quickly bring you to 335.  Once reaching this level, you can create Thick Draenic Vest and Felscale Breastplate to bring you to 375.

Level 375 – 450

With the introduction of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, this WoW Leatherworking Guide will tell you what basic materials you need and what to make to quickly increase your Leatherworking profession.   You will need

* 210 Borean Leather

* 100 Arctic Fur

* 120 Heavy Borean Leather

* 20 Eternal Fire

* 20 Icy Dragonscale

* 120 Heavy Borean Leather

* 20 Eternal Fire

* 400 Nerubian Chitin

* 10 Frozen Orb

Start off making the simplest of all the WOLK craft items by making Borean Armor Kit. Then create the Arctic set until you are green or a few skill levels into the Arctic set. Then make the Fur Lining – Attack Power to bring you to 415. The remaining skill levels are found in the next step up from skill training.

If you plan on taking up Leatherworking I suggest you make the most out of it by also taking up Skinning. Check out the WoW Skinning Guide to make the most out of this WoW Leatherworking Guide.
